Black Creek Watershed

The Black Creek Watershed consists of all the land that drains to Black Creek and its tributaries, including all or part of the Towns of Bethany, Batavia, Stafford, Byron, LeRoy and Bergen in Genesee County and the Towns of Riga, Ogden, Wheatland, Sweden and Chili in Monroe County. Clarendon in Orleans County and Middlebury in Wyoming County also contain small portions of the watershed. In 2002, a Watershed Assistance Grant (WAG) from River Network, a Portland, Oregon-based national river and watershed conservation organization supported by the US EPA, supported the preparation of the Black Creek Watershed State of the Basin Report. The Black Creek Watershed Coalition intends to develop and implement an integrated Watershed Management Plan to minimize water quality impacts and water quantity problems in the Black Creek watershed. To that end, the Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council has secured a grant from the Great Lakes Basin Program for a Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Project.

Rochester Embayment Remedial Action Plan - Stage II

The objectives of the RAP are as follows:

  • Identify Actions Taken To Address Use Impairments

  • Identify Plan of Action For Remaining Use Impairments

  • Identify Schedule For Implementation of Actions

  • Identify Potential Parties to Implement Actions

  • Identify Funding Sources

G/FLRPC coordinated the Rural Remedial Action Ranking Process. The Rural Ranking Task Group was made up of representatives of G/FLRPC, Monroe County Department of Health, Livingston County Departments of Health and Planning, Livingston County Soil & Water Conservation District, Genesee County Planning, Genesee County Soil & Water Conservation District, Wyoming County Planning, Wyoming County Soil & Water Conservation District, Ontario County Planning, and Southern Tier East Regional Planning & Development Board. The Group ranked actions for RAP Possible New Remedial Measures, and developed Proposed Water Quality Actions.

G/FLRPC helped staff the RAP Studies and Monitoring Task Group. The purpose of the group was to share, process information, and rank priorities regarding the studies and monitoring sections of the RAP. Additionally, G/FLRPC has worked with Monroe County Health Department staff to consider present and future strategies for carrying out actions outlined in the RAP.
