·        Opportunity to have a voice in determining watershed-wide priority issues to be addressed in the Black Creek Watershed Management Plan.  This will ensure that local priorities are represented in the management plan.

·        Opportunity to identify and support recommended strategies for the protection of Black Creek and the watershed.  This will ensure that the strategies recommended for protecting the creek are in support of each municipality's own vision for the future.

·        Once the management plan is adopted, state and federal agencies are more likely to give priority to funding requests for specific implementation projects that support the goals and objectives of the Black Creek Watershed Management Plan.  By actively participating in the development of those goals and objectives, municipalities are enhancing their future access to state and federal funding sources.

·        Once the Plan reaches the initial implementation stages, the BCWC will act as clearinghouse for grant proposals.  BCWC endorsement will be given only to proposals that support the Plan.  By choosing to join the BCWC, municipalities are laying the groundwork to insure the multi-jurisdictional endorsement of the BCWC of future grant proposals.  Multi-jurisdictional endorsement will become increasingly important as competition for available funding increases.

·        Economic benefits of a healthy steam and watershed are shared on an intermunicipal basis and protection of the stream and the watershed should be an intermunicipal effort.

·        Participating in watershed management efforts increases implementation of protection and restoration efforts by increasing the local sense of ownership in the watershed.
