The New York State Brownfield Opportunity Areas (BOA) Program is designed to assist communities foster redevelopment and return dormant and blighted land into productive and catalytic areas while restoring environmental quality. This program provides resources to address local brownfields providing area-wide brownfield redevelopment planning, access to expert environmental and economic analysis, and environmental site assessment for strategic redevelopment parcels. The Brownfield Opportunity Area in the Village Of Perry project includes the completion of a Pre-Nomination Study for an approximate 10–30 acre area characterized with at least one potential brownfield site that is located at 90 Washington Blvd. in the Village of Perry. The site has an 85-year history of industrial use and has been vacant since A&A Metal Fabricating closed its doors in March 2001. Due to the location of the 10 acre parcel in the central business district, and its proximity to the tourist destinations of Letchworth State Park and Silver Lake, the area presents a strategic opportunity to stimulate economic development. A goal of the proposed BOA project is to facilitate redevelopment in the business district so that vacant and underutilized space may be used to attract new business. The primary community revitalization objectives to be achieved by this project include a community vision for redevelopment, assembling accurate data and information about the area; and establishing a process that will spur redevelopment. Anticipated community benefits resulting from this project include a more vibrant community, increased property values, a safer and cleaner neighborhood, improved public health and increased quality of life.
