Economic Recovery during the Coronavirus pandemic

G/FLRPC is a part of an economic development initiative to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic through the Genesee-Finger Lakes Economic Development District EDA CARES Act Supplemental Award.  The initial phase is to gather information on the needs of the region and to share relevant, timely economic recovery information and resources with you during these exceptional times.  G/FLRPC is working with MRB Group as the economic recovery coordinator.

GFLRPC is pleased to announce the first installment of our Regional Summit series. This first session will focus on rural economic development – how your rural community can best position itself to maximize infrastructure funding for economic development.
Keynote speakers include Greg Albert from Empire State Development, Nicole Manapol from Letchworth Gateway Villages and Charlie Philion from the Office of Community Renewal. Our keynote speakers will share their proven strategies in rural economic development as well as funding programs and other opportunities that may be available for you community.

The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) State Economic & Infrastructure Development Investment Program provides federal funds for critical economic and community development projects throughout the northeast.  Click for more details.

Economic Recovery Series: Child Care and Economic Development
Child care is a vital, but often overlooked component of regional economic development. Not only is this industry crucial to early childhood development, but it also supports labor force participation and workforce development. Each G/FL community that responded to our stakeholder survey identified access to affordable child care as one of the most pressing issues they are facing. Here is an informational “white paper” identifying two proven economic development strategies that have successfully mediated common issues of both home- and center-based care.

Bridge NY grant program
The Bridge NY grant program provides funds to rehabilitate and replace bridges and culverts on public roadways that carry vehicular traffic. Total funding of $200 million is available, with grant of up to $5 million for bridges and $1 million for culverts. Pre-applications are due on April 14 for culverts and May 5 for bridges. CDBG Microenterprise Assistance grant program
​The CDBG Microenterprise Assistance grant program provides funds to communities to support small businesses. Communities are awarded funding of up to $300,000 which is then dispersed to individual microenterprises (businesses that have no more than five employees.)   More information here.

Genesee Valley Rural Revitalization grant program
The Genesee Valley Rural Revitalization grant program supports historic rehabilitation projects throughout rural communities in the Finger Lakes and Western New York Communities with grant awards ranging from $5,000 to $50,000. Applications for Round 1 of funding are due March 13. More information here.

Sustain Our Great Lakes grant program
The Sustain Our Great Lakes (SOGL) grant program provides funding to projects that enhance or improve water quality of Great Lakes habitats. Grants can range from $100,000-1,000,000. More information here.

Local Small Business Development Center
Today we are highlighting the services of your local Small Business Development Center, which provides small business owners and entrepreneurs with high quality business counseling, training, and business research at no cost. Assistance provided by the NYSBDC can also include: applying for PPP/EDIL and other recovery assistance, creating or refining a business plan, applying for financing and other general management advice.
